This Southwest Odyssey Tours Day Excursion is a great introduction to the history and accomplishments of the 19 Pueblos of New Mexico. Adventurers will learn the history of the Pueblo people and how the beautiful lands of New Mexico influenced their incredible art, culture, and architecture. The first stop on our special journey will be San Ildefonso Pueblo, famed for its talented potters and working artists. A visit to the Cultural Center and some artist studios offers a glimpse into the rich, complex history of the pueblo people of New Mexico, from pre-Colombian time to current day. Next we travel in our expedition vehicles to Carson National Forest, where the highest peak in New Mexico overlooks a delicate ecosystem in this beautiful forest. Adventurers will be fascinated by the scenic drive which winds down to the bottom of the Rio Grande Gorge, across the Taos Junction Bridge, then on to Taos, location of the famed artist colony. As you marvel at the architecture of the Taos Pueblo, you will quickly discover why it has been named a World Heritage site and a National Historic Landmark. On the journey back to Santa Fe, we will take a scenic, backcountry route through diverse ecosystems and small villages where the life of the early Spanish settlers can still be seen today.
Note: On occasion, Taos Pueblo closes without notice. The Pueblo is but one stop on our Ancient People tour
